About TMS
What TMS is and who it helps
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-drug, non-invasive treatment that uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate brain areas involved in mood regulation. The MagVenture TMS systems we use are FDA-cleared for adults with major depressive disorder who haven’t improved enough with antidepressant medication in the current episode, and as an adjunct treatment for adults with OCD.
For PTSD, MagVenture’s technology is used as part of the MeRT® System by Wave Neuroscience, which is FDA-cleared for adjunct treatment of adults with PTSD. MeRT (Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy) personalizes TMS: it combines the magnetic stimulation with brainwave analysis (qEEG) and heart-rhythm data (ECG), which are used to tailor the stimulation frequency and targeting to each person’s brain activity. MagVenture does not hold a separate FDA-cleared indication for PTSD; the PTSD clearance belongs to the MeRT System.
TMS may be worth discussing if medication or therapy hasn’t given you enough relief. You stay awake, no anesthesia or surgery is involved, and you can return to your usual activities right after each session. A consultation and psychiatric evaluation are needed to decide whether TMS is appropriate for you, and no treatment can promise a particular result. Read more on our TMS therapy page.
MeRT® is a registered trademark of Wave Neuroscience, Inc.

TMS at our West Palm Beach office
The West Palm Beach office at 4400 N Congress Ave, Suite 203, is Health Haven’s flagship location. It is one of only two Health Haven offices where TMS is offered — the other is Okeechobee — so it is the TMS location for patients across Palm Beach County. Health Haven’s Delray Beach, Boynton Beach and Atlantis offices do not offer TMS.
The office is open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and has no Saturday or Sunday hours. Walk-ins are welcome during office hours for general questions and psychiatric care, but TMS itself always starts with a consultation and psychiatric evaluation to decide whether it is appropriate for you. That evaluation can take place at this same office.
Spravato (esketamine) is also offered here, so the West Palm Beach office is one of two places at Health Haven where both interventional treatments for depression are available under one roof. Parking is on site and the office is wheelchair accessible. For questions about this office, call (561) 285-3623; to start a TMS consultation, call our main line at (863) 261-8354.
FAQ
TMS questions
What is TMS?
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive, outpatient treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells in areas of the brain that influence thoughts, emotions and behavior. During treatment, a small coil is placed on your head.
Is TMS FDA-cleared for PTSD?
The FDA clearance for PTSD is held by the MeRT System by Wave Neuroscience, for adjunct treatment of adults with PTSD. MagVenture’s technology is part of that system, but MagVenture does not hold a separate FDA-cleared indication for PTSD. Your psychiatrist can explain how TMS would fit into your PTSD care.
What is a TMS session like?
You stay awake, and no anesthesia or surgery is involved. Magnetic pulses are delivered through a small coil placed on your head. Some people notice scalp discomfort or tingling during treatment.
Who should not have TMS?
People with non-removable magnetic-sensitive metal or metallic devices implanted in the head, or in body parts near the treatment coil, should not receive treatment with the MagVenture TMS Therapy system. Your care team reviews your medical history before treatment.
Is TMS covered by insurance?
Many commercial insurance plans and Medicare may cover TMS for major depressive disorder when specific criteria are met. Our team will verify your benefits before treatment begins.
Can I walk in for TMS at the West Palm Beach office?
Walk-ins are welcome at the West Palm Beach office Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. TMS itself always begins with a consultation and psychiatric evaluation, so call (863) 261-8354 to arrange one before treatment can start.
