Condition
ADHD
ADHD can affect focus, impulse control and organization. Care starts with a conversation with a provider about your symptoms, history and goals.

About this topic
What is ADHD?
ADHD involves symptoms that affect attention, impulse control and executive functioning, which can make organization, finishing tasks and managing time harder.
Common signs and symptoms
People describe trouble staying focused, being easily distracted, restlessness, acting without thinking, disorganization, trouble managing time, forgetfulness, or difficulty starting or finishing tasks. Many people have some of these experiences at times, and having them does not mean you have ADHD. A qualified provider can help you understand what you are experiencing.
How evaluation works
Care usually begins with a psychiatric evaluation of your symptoms, history, attention patterns and goals. Your provider may ask about school, work and daily routines, and may ask for other sources of information. Other conditions, including anxiety, depression and sleep problems, can look similar, so the evaluation looks at the whole picture.
Treatment approaches
Depending on the person, care can include skills and routines support, talk therapy, medication management, or a combination.
