Psychiatric Care for Apollo Beach Residents
Apollo Beach sits on the east shore of Tampa Bay in Hillsborough County, a census-designated place of 26,002 people at the 2020 Census — up 85% from 2010, after roughly doubling again in the 2000s. The median age is 44.8, with 21.2% of residents under 18 and 19.7% past 65, and about 17% of neighbors are Hispanic (2020 Census). It is a family community with a real older-adult share rather than a retirement town, and it is still growing — the median household income is around $127,617, the mean commute runs 35.3 minutes, and about 27% of residents work from home (ACS 2020–2024 figures).
The canals are the town: an estimated 55 miles of them lead out to Tampa Bay, and daily life turns on the water — MiraBay's gated 135-acre lagoon, private docks, the TECO Manatee Viewing Center at Big Bend in winter. For psychiatric care, the picture is different. No dedicated outpatient psychiatry practice in Apollo Beach itself surfaced in our search. What the community has is a dense counseling cluster on Apollo Beach Blvd — Selah, Guided Path Child & Family Counseling, Wesley Counseling, Calm Waters Wellness, Developing Mind Counseling Center, and others — which is counseling rather than medication management, plus two individual psychiatry directory listings we don't present as active practices. Psychiatry is minutes away in Sun City Center (about 4.5 miles) and Riverview (about 7 miles), so this is not a care desert. Health Haven's Tampa office sits about 28 to 32 miles north, and telehealth covers the days the drive doesn't work.
Getting here
Health Haven Tampa — 3246 Cove Bend Dr, Tampa, FL 33613 · (863) 261-8354
From Apollo Beach, two roads do the work. US-41 (Tamiami Trail) crosses the center of the CDP and runs north through Gibsonton and Riverview toward north Tampa. I-75 is the freeway alternative, entered from Exit 246 (Big Bend Rd) at the northern edge of the community. Our office at 3246 Cove Bend Dr sits in the 33613 area of north Tampa — beyond the downtown leg, not at its end. It's roughly 28 to 32 miles, about 35 to 50 minutes off-peak (estimate), and 50 to 70 minutes or more at rush hour.
Both routes funnel north through the same Gibsonton and Riverview corridor, so there is no genuinely independent second way to reach north Tampa: I-75 north is the alternative when US-41 backs up, and US-41 is the surface alternative when I-75 does. Locally, Apollo Beach Blvd is the spine residents already drive — it runs off US-41 through the commercial strip, past Apollo Beach Elementary at 501 Apollo Beach Blvd and the counseling offices further along. Rush hour is the variable: school months and event periods push the northbound trip well past the off-peak estimate, which is exactly why telehealth matters here.
Care available
Here's what we offer at our Tampa office.
- Psychiatric evaluations — a careful first look at what's going on, so we can talk through next steps together.
- Medication management — prescribing and ongoing check-ins, adjusted as we learn what fits.
- Therapy — talk-based care, one on one, at a pace that feels manageable.
No dedicated outpatient psychiatry practice in Apollo Beach itself surfaced in our search — what the community has is a real counseling cluster on Apollo Beach Blvd and Frandorson Cir, which is counseling rather than medication management, plus two individual psychiatry directory listings we don't present as active practices. Psychiatry is minutes away in Sun City Center (about 4.5 miles) and Riverview (about 7 miles), so residents already look outward; what Health Haven adds is evaluations and medication management alongside therapy, in north Tampa or by telehealth. Telehealth appointments are available anywhere in Florida, as long as you're physically in Florida at the time of your appointment. We see patients 12 and up (children 8 and up by referral), accept most major insurance plans — see /insurance — and have seven Spanish-speaking providers on the Health Haven team.
Living here
Apollo Beach was engineered around water from the start — conceived in the 1930s, dredged canal by canal, and renamed in 1958 — and today an estimated 55 miles of canals lead out to Tampa Bay. MiraBay is the gated waterfront core, organized around a 135-acre lagoon with private docks, a clubhouse, and kayak and paddleboard rentals. The TECO Manatee Viewing Center at Big Bend, 6990 Dickman Rd, draws manatees into the warm-water discharge canal when the bay cools; it is seasonal, open November 1 to April 15 with free admission. The Apollo Beach Preserve, 6760 Surfside Blvd, is 63 acres of bayfront with a 2-acre sandy beach for picnicking and sunbathing — swimming is not allowed — a 37-foot observation tower, and shoreline fishing.
Families settle in fast: Apollo Beach Elementary at 501 Apollo Beach Blvd, Inez Doby Elementary at 6720 Covington Garden Dr, Waterset Charter School K–8 at 6540 Knowledge Ln, and the Dorothy C. York Innovation Academy at 5995 Covington Garden Dr are all inside the CDP, with older students heading to East Bay High in Gibsonton. Waterset, the 1,319-acre development on the east side planned for roughly 2,900 single-family and 900 multi-family homes, is where much of the growth lives. It is a commuter and remote-worker community: a 35.3-minute mean commute, about 27% working from home, and MacDill Air Force Base about 25 to 40 minutes north — with a median household income around $127,617 and 85.7% homeownership (ACS 2020–2024).
Why patients come
Apollo Beach has no dedicated outpatient psychiatry practice of its own — counseling is thick on Apollo Beach Blvd, medication management is not — and residents already look outward to Sun City Center and Riverview. Health Haven's Tampa office sits about 28 to 32 miles north, a real trip that runs about 35 to 50 minutes off-peak (estimate) and 50 to 70 minutes or more at rush hour. In one practice you'll find psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and therapy, shaped around a community that roughly doubled in the 2010s and is still growing — care for teens, for working adults, and for the older share of neighbors. And on the days the drive into north Tampa doesn't fit, telehealth from home is available anywhere in Florida.
- A real drive, honestly stated — about 28 to 32 miles, roughly 35 to 50 minutes off-peak (estimate), and 50 to 70 minutes or more at rush hour.
- Care the Blvd doesn't include — psychiatric evaluations and medication management alongside therapy, in one practice.
- Care matched to the community — a fast-growing, family community with a real older-adult share, with care for teens, adults, and later life.
- Telehealth from home — appointments from anywhere in Florida, on the days the drive to north Tampa doesn't fit.

What's the difference between the counseling on Apollo Beach Blvd and Health Haven Tampa?

Can I use telehealth instead of driving to Tampa for every appointment?
Yes. Telehealth is available anywhere in Florida, as long as you are physically in Florida at the time of your appointment. It matters here: the mean commute from Apollo Beach is 35.3 minutes, about 27% of residents work from home, and the Tampa drive can reach 50 to 70 minutes or more at rush hour.
Are there Spanish-speaking providers?
Yes. Health Haven has seven Spanish-speaking providers on the team — a practice-wide fact, available at the Tampa office and by telehealth. About 17% of Apollo Beach residents are Hispanic (2020 Census), and 15.6% of residents age 5 and up speak a language other than English at home (ACS 2020–2024).
