Psychiatric Care for Fish Hawk Residents

Fish Hawk is a 16.38-square-mile census-designated place in Hillsborough County, ZIP 33547, and it is bigger and younger than most people outside it realize. The 2020 Census counted 24,625 residents; the ACS 2024 estimate puts it at 26,186. More than a third of the place is under 18 — 35.7% (2020 Census) and 34.4% (ACS 2020–2024) — with a median age of 33.6 (2020 Census) and 36.2 (ACS 2024). Households average 3.26 people and earn a median household income of $135,271 (both ACS 2020–2024). It is 12.4% Hispanic or Latino (ACS 2020–2024), and 19.8% of residents age 5 and up speak a language other than English at home (ACS 2020–2024). The CDP is not one neighborhood: it wraps around part of the older community of Lithia and several subdivisions, including FishHawk Ranch, a 3,000+ acre master-planned community, and FishHawk Trails, a separate, older gated community built by a different company.

The honest market picture: directory searches surfaced no brick-and-mortar psychiatry practice with a Fish Hawk or Lithia street address. What surfaced in Lithia is counselling and psychology, plus psychiatry listings marked telehealth-only with no Lithia address — while psychiatry practices in Brandon along Bloomingdale Ave and in Riverview along Balm Riverview Rd sit roughly 5–6 miles from the community's core. Health Haven serves patients from Fish Hawk from its Tampa office at 3246 Cove Bend Dr, Tampa, FL 33613. That is roughly 35–40 miles and about 50–60 minutes (est.) each way, past downtown Tampa to north Tampa — a real trip, not a quick one, which is why telehealth leads the relationship for most routine care.

Getting here

Health Haven Tampa — 3246 Cove Bend Dr, Tampa, FL 33613 · (863) 261-8354

The office is at 3246 Cove Bend Dr, Tampa, FL 33613 — north Tampa, in the 33613 ZIP, around the Bearss Ave / Bruce B. Downs area. From Fish Hawk that is roughly 35–40 miles and about 50–60 minutes (est.) each way, off-peak. Downtown Tampa sits about 20 miles northwest, and the city-to-city drive runs about 24 miles and 34 minutes — but the office trip continues past the downtown junction and keeps going north, so that 34-minute figure is the downtown drive, not the office drive.

Routes (est.): Fishhawk Blvd west to Boyette Rd, then US 301 north or I-75; or Fishhawk Blvd / Lithia Pinecrest Rd northwest to Bloomingdale Ave to I-75 north, past the I-4 interchange toward the Fowler Ave / Bearss Ave exits (est.), then west on surface streets to Cove Bend Dr; or a surface variation via Lithia Pinecrest Rd to Brandon and the Selmon Expressway toward downtown, then north through Tampa (est.).

Honest traps (est.): Fishhawk Blvd is the CDP's main exit corridor and carries the school-run load for the Ranch's school cluster — Randall Middle School and Newsome High School sit side-by-side on Fishhawk Blvd — so school hours are the first bottleneck. I-75 between Bloomingdale and I-4 is a chronically congested commuter segment, and the community's own mean commute is already 38.6 minutes (ACS 2020–2024). At rush hour the office trip can push well past the off-peak estimate (est.).

Telehealth changes the shape of this. Because telehealth is available anywhere in Florida, as long as the patient is physically in Florida at the time of the appointment, routine care — medication check-ins and therapy — can happen from home in Fish Hawk. The drive is for the appointments that are better done in person.

Care available

Here's what we offer at our Tampa office.

  • Psychiatric evaluations — a careful first look at what's going on, so we can talk through next steps together.
  • Medication management — prescribing and ongoing check-ins, adjusted as we learn what fits.
  • Therapy — talk-based care, one on one: psychotherapy and counseling, at a pace that feels manageable.

That is the honest picture: no brick-and-mortar psychiatry practice with a Fish Hawk or Lithia street address surfaced in directory searches, while counselling and psychology did surface in Lithia and psychiatry practices sit roughly 5–6 miles away in Brandon and Riverview. Health Haven serves patients from Fish Hawk from its Tampa office at 3246 Cove Bend Dr, Tampa, FL 33613 — and because telehealth is available anywhere in Florida, as long as the patient is physically in Florida at the time of the appointment, routine care does not require the drive. We see patients 12 and up, and children 8 and up by referral. We accept 21 insurance plans. Seven Spanish-speaking providers are on the team practice-wide.

Living here

The place takes its name from Little Fishhawk Creek, a tributary of the Alafia River that joins it just west of Lithia Springs, and the Alafia forms the CDP's northern border toward Valrico and Bloomingdale. The FishHawk Creek Nature Preserve is a 3,286-acre site along that creek corridor, bisected by Fishhawk Blvd into north and south halves — the north side has a trailhead for over 3 miles of hiking trails with parking at 3931 Lithia Springs Road, and the south side parks at 16640 Boyette Rd. The preserve's namesake is the osprey, colloquially a fish hawk. Inside FishHawk Ranch, residents walk 25 miles of trails, raised to boardwalk level in places. At the community's older, eastern end, Lithia Springs Regional Park covers 160 acres around a natural spring that flows year-round at 72 degrees, with 45 campsites, a canoe and kayak launch, and roughly 60% of the park wrapped by the Alafia River.

Daily life runs on named ground. Park Square Town Center at 16132 Churchview Dr is the Ranch's retail and service hub, with a 2-acre park and performance lawn; Hawk Park is 40 acres of soccer, softball, pool and lighted courts. The schools sit inside the community itself: FishHawk Creek Elementary at 16815 Dorman Rd, Randall Middle School at 16510 Fishhawk Blvd, and Newsome High School at 16550 Fishhawk Blvd, opened by the Hillsborough County School District in 2003 to keep up with the growth. FishHawk Ranch itself was built by Newland Communities from the late 1990s on former ranch land, organized into 37 named villages over 3,000+ acres and run as a Community Development District, so residents pay a CDD fee. Before any of it, the land was a working ranch crossed by a CSX rail path — the tracks came out in the late 1980s, and the old train station had been the main import and export point for Lithia residents. The corridors people actually drive are Fishhawk Blvd through the middle, Boyette Rd along the south toward Riverview, Lithia Pinecrest Rd northwest toward Brandon and I-75, and Bloomingdale Ave north into Brandon.

Why patients come

Fish Hawk residents are not short on counselling or psychology, and they are not short on psychiatry within a few miles — but they are making a deliberate choice about where ongoing psychiatric care happens, and most of them are making it around a family schedule. The community is young, affluent and school-centered, its mean commute already runs 38.6 minutes (ACS 2020–2024), and the Tampa office adds roughly 35–40 miles and about 50–60 minutes (est.) each way on top of that. What brings people over is a care model that lets the drive happen only when it earns its place.

  • Telehealth for the routine work — medication check-ins and therapy sessions happen from home in Fish Hawk, anywhere in Florida, as long as the patient is physically in Florida at the time of the appointment.
  • In-person time when it's worth the trip — evaluations and office sessions at 3246 Cove Bend Dr, planned around a drive we describe honestly rather than minimize.
  • Care that follows the family — patients 12 and up, children 8 and up by referral, in a CDP where 35.7% of residents are under 18 (2020 Census).
  • Insurance and Spanish, both in place — we accept 21 insurance plans, and seven Spanish-speaking providers are on the team practice-wide.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a psychiatrist in Fish Hawk or Lithia?

Directory searches in October 2026 surfaced no brick-and-mortar psychiatry practice with a Fish Hawk or Lithia street address. What surfaced in Lithia is counselling — Float On Counseling at Park Square, 16132 Churchview Dr, and Empower to Change at 5476 Lithia Pinecrest Rd — a psychologist listing at 5470 Lithia Pinecrest Rd, and psychiatry listings marked telehealth-only with no Lithia address. Psychiatrists do sit nearby in Brandon along Bloomingdale Ave and in Riverview along Balm Riverview Rd, roughly 5–6 miles from the community's core. Health Haven serves patients from Fish Hawk from its Tampa office at 3246 Cove Bend Dr, Tampa, FL 33613.

How long is the drive from Fish Hawk to Health Haven's Tampa office?

Roughly 35–40 miles and about 50–60 minutes (est.) each way, off-peak. The office is in north Tampa (33613), past downtown — downtown Tampa itself is about 20 miles away, a 24.2-mile, 34-minute drive — but that is the downtown trip, not the office trip. Routes (est.) run Fishhawk Blvd west to Boyette Rd to US 301 north or I-75, or Fishhawk Blvd / Lithia Pinecrest Rd northwest to Bloomingdale Ave to I-75 north toward the Fowler Ave / Bearss Ave exits. School-hour traffic on Fishhawk Blvd, the I-75 stretch between Bloomingdale and I-4, and rush hour all add to that (est.), on top of a community whose mean commute is already 38.6 minutes (ACS 2020–2024).

Can I do appointments from home in Fish Hawk instead of driving to Tampa?

Yes. Telehealth is available anywhere in Florida, as long as the patient is physically in Florida at the time of the appointment, so routine care — medication check-ins and therapy — can happen from home in Fish Hawk without the Fishhawk Blvd to I-75 trip. In-person appointments at 3246 Cove Bend Dr stay available when that is the better fit.

Does the Tampa office offer TMS, Spravato, or addiction treatment for Fish Hawk patients?

No — not at Tampa. The Tampa office offers psychiatric evaluations, medication management, psychotherapy and counseling, and telehealth only; it does not offer TMS, Spravato, or addiction recovery treatment.

Does Health Haven have an office in Fish Hawk?

No. Health Haven has no office in Fish Hawk; we serve patients from Fish Hawk from our Tampa office at 3246 Cove Bend Dr, Tampa, FL 33613 — call (863) 261-8354.

What ages does Health Haven see from Fish Hawk?

Patients 12 and up, and children 8 and up by referral. That matters in Fish Hawk, where more than a third of residents are under 18 — 35.7% (2020 Census) and 34.4% (ACS 2020–2024).

¿Hay atención en español para pacientes de Fish Hawk? / Is care available in Spanish?

Sí — Health Haven has seven Spanish-speaking providers on the team practice-wide, not located in Fish Hawk. Fish Hawk is 12.4% Hispanic or Latino (ACS 2020–2024), and 19.8% of residents age 5 and up speak a language other than English at home (ACS 2020–2024). In Lithia itself, Spanish-language therapy listings surfaced, but no Spanish-speaking brick-and-mortar psychiatry practice did.
