Psychiatric Care for Egypt Lake-Leto Residents

Egypt Lake-Leto is a dense, Spanish-speaking community of 36,644 people, made up of Egypt Lake, Leto, and West Park Estates. Seven in ten residents are Hispanic or Latino, and most households — 67.1% — speak a language other than English at home; nearly half of residents are foreign-born. It's a neighborhood of families, renters, and workers moving along Armenia Ave, Waters Ave, and Sligh Ave, with A.P. Leto High School at its center.

Outpatient psychiatric care inside Egypt Lake-Leto is thin — a few small practices — and ongoing care in Spanish is harder to find than it should be. Health Haven's Tampa office at 3246 Cove Bend Dr, Tampa, FL 33613 sits in the USF area, about a 25-minute drive from the neighborhood (give or take traffic). We have six Spanish-speaking providers across the practice, offering psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and therapy. If the drive doesn't fit your week, telehealth is available anywhere in Florida as long as you're physically in the state at appointment time. The drive is real, but so is the care.

Getting here

You'll find us at 3246 Cove Bend Dr, Tampa, FL 33613, in the USF / Temple Terrace area of northeast Tampa. That's across town from Egypt Lake-Leto — about 11–13 miles, typically about a 25-minute drive, 20 to 35 minutes give or take traffic. The straightforward route is W Hillsborough Ave east across the city toward the USF area. Hillsborough Ave runs along the south side of the neighborhood, so it's a road you already use. If you'd rather take the highway, I-275 toward the Busch Blvd corridor is the alternative.

A few honest notes on traffic. Hillsborough Ave is a long road with plenty of traffic lights, and rush hour stretches the trip. I-275 can back up near downtown. And on Raymond James Stadium event days, Dale Mabry Hwy and Tampa Bay Blvd snarl — so on those days, stick with the Hillsborough Ave route, which stays north of the stadium corridor.

Care available

Here's the care available at our Tampa office.

  • Psychiatric evaluations — A first appointment centered on understanding what's going on and what options make sense.
  • Medication management — Ongoing appointments to review and adjust any medications you're prescribed.
  • Therapy — Talk-based appointments to work through what's on your mind.

Six Spanish-speaking providers practice at Health Haven, so ongoing care in Spanish is available, and telehealth appointments are available anywhere in Florida as long as you're physically in the state at appointment time. We see patients 12 and up, with children 8 and up by referral, and most major insurance plans are accepted — see /insurance. Where the area's best-known option is St. Joseph's Hospital Behavioral Health Center — inpatient, crisis-focused Baker Act-receiving care — Health Haven offers regular outpatient appointments over time for evaluations, medication management, and therapy, with six Spanish-speaking providers if you'd prefer Spanish.

Living here

Egypt Lake-Leto is really three neighborhoods folded into one — Egypt Lake, Leto, and West Park Estates — with 36,644 people living at about 6,202 per square mile. That density is what gives the place its feel: a real city neighborhood, close together, where working families — most of them renters, with only 47.8% of homes owner-occupied — live along W Waters Ave, N Armenia Ave, and N Himes Ave. A.P. Leto High School at 4409 W Sligh Ave has been part of that fabric since 1965; it enrolls roughly 2,025 students — 74% of them Hispanic in the school's 2016 profile — is a Title I school, and opens again at night for adult education.

Daily life tends to move toward Al Lopez Park — 132 acres at 4810 N Himes Ave, with trails, two ponds (one for fishing), playgrounds, a dog park, and the Cordelia B. Hunt Community Center. On game days it fills with tailgaters, since Raymond James Stadium sits right next door. St. Joseph's Hospital is about two miles south.

Why patients come

People come to Health Haven from Egypt Lake-Leto for care that fits the life they're already living. In a community where 70.6% of residents are Hispanic and 67.1% speak a language other than English at home, being able to sit with a Spanish-speaking provider matters — we have six. Our Tampa office is across town near USF — typically about a 25-minute drive (estimate) on roads you already use, like W Hillsborough Ave. Many visits can happen by telehealth from your home instead. And care here is ongoing outpatient care: regular appointments over time, rather than the crisis-focused inpatient unit most people in the area think of when they hear "behavioral health."

  • Psychiatric care in Spanish, with six Spanish-speaking providers
  • About a 25-minute drive across town to our USF-area office, or telehealth appointments from home
  • Ongoing outpatient care, not crisis-only inpatient treatment
  • Telehealth from home, anywhere in Florida
